Tyers Art Festival and Tyers Music, Food & Wine Festival

500 entries have been received for the Australian Paper Tyers Art Exhibition at the Tyers Hall this weekend.

Festival Director, Peter Harrison, said entries were submitted from across Gippsland, Victoria and interstate.

“We are very pleased with the huge response we have had for this year’s Tyers Art Exhibition," Mr Harrison said.

"We have received some incredible pieces that will engage, challenge, enthral and inspire visitors to this year’s exhibition.

"We have an amazing metal sculpture ‘The Bowler’ that stands larger than life, and incredible woodwork, metalwork and textiles entries in the Designer Craft sections.

"There are some very challenging artworks from Josephine Ahlers, which will be the centre of much discussion.

"There are amazing tranquil landscapes, which are so powerful that you will want to step into the artwork, stunning photography and pieces across a range of themes that will capture your imagination and take you to places you haven’t been to before.”

At this, the 39th Tyers Art Festival, the committee is presenting the Graham Longmore Architectural Photography Award, recognising the contribution of Graham in the establishment of the festival, now acknowledged as one of the major regional art events in Victoria.

Mr Harrison acknowledged the many photographers who accepted the challenge to work in the traditional black and white photography medium that Graham worked in, and who have produced some stunning images.

On show will be the complete original drawings by Graham of the Yallourn Township prior to its demolition to make way for the expansion of the Yallourn Open Cut. This set of original drawings has never previously been seen publicly, hiding in archive storage since 1982.
