More WNBL basketball in Gippsland

We'll see more of Australia's premier women’s basketball competition in Gippsland with the Melbourne Boomers to play an extra four games here in the next two years.

The Boomers will play the Bendigo Spirit in Traralgon and Sale on top of an annual match in Warragul.

There will also be training sessions, junior clinics and coaching for students and players across the region.

The two-year partnership with the WNBL team is part of the state government’s $85 million Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative.

Minister for Sport John Eren made the Boomers announcement at Warragul before moving onto Traralgon to officially open upgrades at the Traralgon Tennis Complex.

The new facilities pave the way for more and bigger tournaments to come to the region.

Traralgon is already home to the annual AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International and ATP Challenger tournaments.

New show courts and seating have been built, with works still underway to resurface 14 courts and replace the perimeter fence.

The redevelopment was funded through the state government’s Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative.
