Gippsland East MP, Tim Bull, who said he raised the Bairnsdale Secondary College stage 2 matter 25 times in parliament in the past seven years.

Work announced on Bairnsdale Secondary build

The long-awaited Bairnsdale Secondary College Stage Two will be completed in late 2023 at a cost of $7.14 million.

Gippsland East Nationals MP, Tim Bull said he has been advised by the government that stage two will deliver a new Year Seven hub, a refurbished science block and other works.

The previous Coalition Government funded and built stage one that opened in 2014.

Mr Bull said it had been a long battle to get the current government to fund the completion, but seven years later, "it is great to finally get the news it is going to be done."

“The successful builder is expected to be appointed before the end of this year," Mr Bull said.

“My advocacy on this project has been based on the fact this is the biggest school in our region and has been left half built, with students being forced to walk between the old and new campuses, which is far from ideal when it is raining.

“Having toured the old Wallace Street site on a number of occasions, it is clear it is not befitting of our largest secondary college.

The stage two confirmation is happy news for Executive Principal Trudie Nagle.

"All of our students who access technology, woodwork, metals, drama programs... walk around behind the recreation centre to go to what's known as the old campus, and there's no doubt it's a pest," Ms Nagle said.

"The new buildings that we have are fantastic. But the old facilities are pretty shabby and that's why we're so excited about getting the new building phases up and underway."
