A festival celebrating the great people, places and career opportunities in the Latrobe Valley will be held today at Kernot Hall, Morwell.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the free We Are Latrobe – My Valley My Home Festival and experience a taste of what’s on offer in the Valley. Festival organisers hope the event will bring the community together to build a sense of unity, optimism and pride in the Latrobe Valley.

“The Latrobe Valley is a major incubator of emerging local talent, including music, performing and visual arts, and lifestyle and there are many career opportunities here for young people,” Festival organiser Shaun Mallia said.

“We’ve collected a sample of what the Valley has to offer and we will have it on show at the festival for the community to experience and celebrate. This festival will show why the Valley is a great, healthy place to live, work and study.”

The family-friendly festival will feature local music, entertainment, activities, food stalls, more than 30 fun interactive stalls and We Are Latrobe showbags encouraging festival-goers to seek out free goodies from specially marked stalls.

A diverse group of inspiring people from the Valley will also be sharing their experiences with school students in a series of invitation-only talks to be held earlier in the day. The discussions will focus on encouraging young people from Latrobe to consider career opportunities in the Valley.

The event is presented by the We Are Latrobe Social Marketing Team, Latrobe Youth Space and the Latrobe Health Assembly, in partnership with the Latrobe Community Health Service, the Department of Health and Human Services, Latrobe Valley Authority and Latrobe Young Professionals.

We Are Latrobe is an initiative of the Latrobe Health Innovation Zone.
