The Royal Exchange Hotel's Cork Club is shaking up its Good Friday Appeal tin collecting this year, with designated donation points to be set up in Traralgon.

In previous years, volunteers would collect from vehicles at the Princes Highway and Breed Street intersection. However club president Roy Arnold said the new arrangements are a safety measure.

"It's considered a bit dangerous for people to be collecting safely at that intersection," Roy said.

"It's all about the safety of people who are volunteering. Police have said there's a lot of heavy traffic coming through Traralgon now, so rather than collecting at that intersection, we've come up with the option of collecting at a few sites just off the road."

Over the years, the Cork Club has raised many thousands of dollars for the Royal Childrens Hospital. To do so again they need of more volunteers for the off-road donation collecting. Roy said volunteers have been harder to find in recent times.

"Because people haven't been out and about, they're a little reluctant to do the sort of things they used to do.

"Like this year we're not running our family fun day, last year we didn't have the tin shaking as well, so maybe it's a little bit out of people's minds.

"So we're getting the word out that we hope volunteers will help us out again."
