Gipps League juniors, Bairnsdale races and Traralgon Marathon

The Gippsland League has confirmed that no junior football or netball will be played this weekend.

The League consulted with all 10 clubs, saying games will only proceed if every club agreed.

7 of the 10 clubs were not in favour of any junior matches being played.

The League says it is working toward a return to play as soon as possible, as long as all clubs and their volunteers are able to host matches according to Covid-safe rules.

The Bairnsdale race meeting will go ahead this Sunday, but with no race-goers on track in line with directions from Racing Victoria.

Race fans can instead follow the meeting on the TV racing channel 66.

The meeting was to be a 'Thank You' day to show appreciation for those who worked, helped, experienced and volunteered during the 2019 East Gippsland bushfires.

That has now been rescheduled to 3 October.

The Traralgon Marathon & Running Festival due to be held this Sunday has been postponed due to the current Covid restrictions.

The Traralgon Harriers have pushed the event back a month to allow time for gathering and venue restrictions to ease so that Melbourne and interstate runners can compete.

Online entries have been re-opened on the Traralgon Harriers web site, with the hope the Traralgon Marathon can take place on 11 July under strict Covid protocols.
