Ben Currie in BSB round 2 practice sessions at Oulton Park prior to crashing out

Gippsland's Currie crashes heavily in UK causing breaks in foot

It was a heartbreaking weekend for road racer Ben Currie who crashed heavily in a practice session in the UK, resulting in multiple breaks in his left foot.

The British Superbike Championship competitor from Glengarry in Gippsland also damaged his knee ligaments at Oulton Park in England as he prepared for round two.

The heavy crash at Shell Oils Corner put Ben out of this round and probably the next few as well.

“I’m so disappointed to have got injured so early in the season and the weekend," Ben said.

"I really was looking forward to riding the bike at Oulton Park and was feeling strong in the short time I was out there.

“I’m sorry to the team and all my sponsors but I will be working hard to move things forward and do everything I can to get back out on track as soon as possible.”

Ben's Quattro Plant JG Speedfit Kawasaki teammate Glenn Irwin took a best finish of 22nd in the round.

Team Manager Jack Valentine said: “It was disappointing that Ben got hurt so early in the weekend."

"He was riding well, and we wish him all the very best for a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on the bike soon.”

Ben has made a promising beginning to his debut season in the Bennetts BSB. Despite this round two setback, Ben has the strength of will to work hard at recovery and to finish the season strongly.
