Getting the highway and other roads open is a priority
Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) crews are continuing to work with CFA, VicRoads, Australian Defence Force and East Gippsland Shire to clear and reopen roads in bushfire affected areas across Far East Gippsland.
Incident Controller at Orbost Incident Control Centre, Steve Young, said: “Our crews are working tirelessly to open up roads, improving access to more towns and remote communities. Our priority is to clear Princes Highway followed by Bonang Road and Monaro Highway.
“We were able to successfully open the Princes Highway temporarily for two days this week to enable visitors to retrieve their belongings from Gipsy Point, Genoa and Mallacoota. We are making good progress clearing the road from Mallacoota to Genoa but given the scale of the impact to this area and the level of damage, there is still work to be done.
