Extensive damage from Hungry Jack's fire

There was only one injury from a fire that badly damaged the Hungry Jack's restaurant in Traralgon last night.

Fire crews were called to the store at around 7pm as flames and smoke took hold of the building, bringing the fire under control within an hour.

Around 30 staff and customers were safely evacuated with one person taken to hospital.

"We had one male transported to hospital with smoke inhalation but he appears to be OK," CFA Commander Steve Hawkin said.

Fire investigators will arrive this morning to determine the cause and extent of the fire, although it is believed to have started in the kitchen.

The fire created a significant amount of smoke as it quickly leaped up the exhaust and spread through the ceiling.

"The damage appears to be extensive but we're yet to determine exactly the extent of the damage until we get a fire investigator here and clean up the scene.

"We had 45 firefighters on the scene, seven trucks and other vehicles from supporting stations," Commander Hawkin said.
