Floods follow rain

Record September rainfalls lead to Gippsland flood warnings

It has been a wet weekend in Gippsland, with rain falling Friday night into Saturday and again last night.

The weather bureau said September records were broken overnight Friday in some towns. The Latrobe Valley recorded 75mm, Sale 40mm, Bairnsdale 57mm and Orbost 92mm between Friday night and 5am today.

There are Moderate Flood Warnings for the Mitchell and Latrobe Rivers.

Minor flooding is occurring along the Mitchell at Glenaladale and Bairnsdale with further rises to moderate levels possible this morning.

The Latrobe River is rising it's at Moderate flood level above Traralgon with the same expected at Rosedale.

There are Minor Flood Warnings for the Snowy, Tambo, Avon, Macalister and Thomson Rivers.

The Princes Highway has been reopened between Stratford and Bairnsdale .. although Bengworden Road remains closed in two places.

Tyers Road is flooded at the Latrobe River .. and some roads in the hills south of the Valley are also closed.
