Glengarry bakery closes

Bushies Bakery outgrows Glengarry

It will be the end of an era on Saturday when Bushies closes its doors in Glengarry.

The business started as a bakery and pizza shop 20 years ago and was reopened by Trevor Ewert in 2011.

Bushies has since won many awards for its famous pies. Trevor and Jenah Ewert and their team have also raised many thousands of dollars for the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal by selling hot cross buns in a variety of intriguing flavours!

Due to size, gas and power limitations at Glengarry, Trevor has been operating a custom built commercial kitchen in Traralgon from where Bushies will continue into the future.

Trevor made the announcement on Facebook yesterday, saying "For more than 8 incredible years Glengarry’s Main Street has been our home."

"We’ve persevered with no natural gas available in the town and an electricity supply insufficient for our business needs.

"It is with great sadness that this Saturday, June 8th, we will be closing the doors of the Glengarry Bakery for the last time.

"Many of you already know that our lease has come to an end and the building is on the market. As a result, we have come to the difficult decision that our chapter in Glengarry has come to an end.

"By 2018 it was evident that we were striving to produce more but were greatly exceeding the capacity of our kitchen.

"The decision was made to build a factory in Traralgon and move 'Bushies Bakery' to there, giving us the ability to use modern and high capacity ovens and equipment, with the ability to deliver better products in a timely manner.

"It wasn’t completed in time for the 2018 bun season and our capabilities in the Glengarry Bakery were pushed to the limits.

"We solely ran production for our 2019 campaign out of our new Traralgon factory. This successfully serviced the needs of the Glengarry Bakery and delivered fundraising drives from Briagolong to Warragul raising a whopping $60,000 that stayed within our local community."

Trevor said they now have a few busy weeks ahead with the daunting task of dismantling everything they have built.

"We have a custom built commercial kitchen in Traralgon that is now home to the Bushies Bakery brand, and never fear - it is the new the home our famous hot cross buns!

"The Glengarry Bakery has been an incredible journey, a great story, so many memories and some pretty amazing customers too.

"For Glengarry it’s a sad goodbye, and for Bushies Bakery... well, who knows where we will 'Pop Up' next!"
