Engie committed to stand trial over mine fire
Engie, the parent company of four others that own the Hazelwood coal mine, have been committed to stand trial over the air pollution caused by the mine fire in 2014.
The Environment Protection Authority is bringing charges after toxic smoke and ash blanketed Morwell during the 45 day fire.
Charges relate to the toxic nature of the smoke and the associated health impacts.
The companies pleaded not guilty in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court yesterday.
The matter will return to court for a directions hearing next month. The trial is set for August 2018.
