West Barracouta gas coming from the Gippsland Basin
Gas is now flowing to eastern Australia from the latest venture in the Gippsland Basin.
According to Esso Australia, gas from the West Barracouta project off the Gippsland coast, and processed at Longford, will help meet predicted domestic shortfalls in the next few years.
Esso, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia, said one of the largest domestic gas projects to come along this decade is now delivering gas to eastern Australia, with the commissioning of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture’s West Barracouta project.
Esso said West Barracouta was one of the largest proven undeveloped gas fields off the south-eastern Australian coast. Following a $400M investment it will now deliver much-needed gas supplies to help curb the potential gas shortfalls predicted for Australia’s southern and eastern states as early as 2023.
