Lakes Entrance officer participating at Gallipoli services

A former Lakes Entrance resident is participating in services on the Gallipoli peninsula as a member of the Royal Australian Air Force Band.

Leading Aircraftman Robert Scott is playing the bagpipes during Anzac Day commemorations in Turkey on April 24 and 25.

In preparation for the services, the former Lakes Entrance Secondary College student visited the grave of his great-great uncle Tom Haylock who was killed at Gallipoli.

“I played the pipes because it just felt like something I should do," Robert said.

"I played Waltzing Matilda to bring back a bit of home for him."

Robert also laid a plaque made from some Cyprus from his family farm. The tree was originally purchased and planted by his grandfather, from pay he received serving in World War II.
