Gippy Power Girls Ready For Round 1

Gippsland Powers U/18 Girls side will begin their 2019 TAC Cup season this weekend, when they take on the Oakleigh Chargers on Sunday.

The girls will travel to SkyBus Stadium in Frankston, hoping to begin this season on the right note, as they look to improve from their 3 wins in 2018.

Oakleigh should provide a good sense of how the squad is progressing, with both Gippsland and Oakleigh finishing 8th and 9th respectively last year.

Gippsland Power's Female Talent Coordinator Chelsea Caple, gave her thoughts heading into round 1.

"The girls are looking really strong this year, they had a great hit out against the Eastern Rangers last weekend, which was a great practice match"

"We've got a lot of young and new talent into our squad this year, so they're really complimenting our top-age girls and the girls who have had experience in our program, so it's looking like its going to be a great year."

Caple also said the club had found their captain and leadership group for the year, acknowledging the key roles of their returning players.

"Our captain this year is Maddison Shaw, Holly Andrews and Alana Rippon have just been announced as our vice captains"

"Nakia Webber is back after having a great season last year, she won our goal kicking as a bottom age player, she really loves playing up forward, reads the ball really well, but we hope to see her run through the midfield this year and sort of use her footy smarts to bring other girls into the game."
