Wilsons Prom to reopen on Friday

Good news for Gippslanders wishing to visit or camp at Wilsons Promontory - it's set to reopen at 9am this Friday.

Lightning ignited a fire on 1 March at Mt Leonard which spread to 323 hectares and burnt to within 150 metres of the Promontory Road and 2.5 km north of Tidal River.

Aircraft and ground crews have contained the spread of fire and the Prom is now safe to reopen.

“Aircraft have supported the ground crews to contain the spread of fire so that the Prom will now be safe to reopen”.

“Fire crews and aircraft will remain in the area to continue to work on the fire. Fire authorities ask visitors to take care when in proximity to these resources.”

“Visitors will be able to enter the park from 9am on Friday. Existing camping, overnight hikes and accommodation bookings for the weekend will remain in place.”
