Gippsland farmer only allowed to "scare" roos
A farmer near Bairnsdale has been told by authorities he can only "scare away" kangaroos and not cull them, even though they're ravaging his property.
Forge Creek farmer Robert Richards applied to DELWP for an "authority to control wildlife" permit but was issued with a rare “scare only” licence.
He has told The Weekly Times he erected a 1.8 metre high fence costing $19,000 to keep the roos out but to no avail.
He says the larger ones burrow underneath.
Mr Richards says he can't use a car or a quad bike to to scare them off and jokingly suggests he should buy a dinosaur outfit.
