Gippsland's musically spectacular state school students

Students from Bairnsdale Secondary College are among 3,000 from around the state who are in Melbourne this week preparing for the Victorian State Schools Spectacular.

Jacob & Letitia Schutte and Carlia & Tiahn van Hoorn are playing violin, sax and percussion.

Students from other Gippsland schools including Bairnsdale, Yarram, Churchill and Leongatha are involved in the mass choir and dance groups.

Bairnsdale Secondary College Year 12 student Jacob Schutte is already busy playing drums around the Bairnsdale area but says working with music industry professionals is taking his music to a new level.

"We're playing You're the Voice, John Farnham's song, and we're being conducted by Chong Lim who is John Farnham's piano player," said Jacob.

"And I met John Farnham's bass player earlier in the year. I played with him in some of the practices.

"And I met the guy who actually reocrded You're the Voice on Saturday morning.

"It was amazing to meet all these people who have done such big things in the music industry."

There are two performances of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular this Saturday at Hisense Arena.
