Contact tracing in Orbost and Marlo after Covid visit

More than a dozen businesses in Orbost and Marlo have closed after a woman who had travelled from Melbourne tested positive to coronavirus.

The woman should have been self isolating after being tested for covid19. Instead she travelled from Melbourne to East Gippsland, visiting several sites including the Marlo Hotel.

It, along with about a dozen other businesses, have now closed after the woman’s test came back positive.

Garry Squires from Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry described it yesterday as a devastating blow.

"Tonight if you wanted to get a meal in Orbost or Marlo you wouldn'y be able to. All the places are closed.

"It's very disappointing for our town. It's been through drought, been through the fires..." Mr Squires said.

Tracers from the Department of Health and Human Services have commenced contact tracing after speaking with the woman and they have created a timeline of her movements and contacts.

Health workers are contacting those they deem to be at risk and advising if they need to present for testing. A testing clinic will operate at the Orbost football oval from 8am today, staffed by personnel from Orbost, Bairnsdale and Latrobe Regional Health Services.

That clinic will only be for those who are referred by DHHS.
