4WD convoy heads to Dargo for TV filming

Central Gippsland is widely renowned as Victoria’s premier 4WD region, and as such has been selected by the 7 Network to feature on an episode of 'Life Off Road', produced by the Team behind 4wd TV – to be filmed this weekend.

4wd TV plan to bring a convoy of 4WD vehicles into Gippsland with a focus on spending locally and boosting the economy. The filming will centre around the community of Dargo and the many 4WD trails surrounding the town. With the assistance of Destination Gippsland and Wellington Shire Council the 4wd TV crew will shoot two episodes this month for national broadcast on 7Mate this coming May.

There will also be a number of special guests including Simon Christie, Will Connolly and Rick O’Brien (who is also filming in the area for a Ch10 off road program).

The episodes will highlight the devastation caused to rural Australia by drought, fires, floods and COVID, and promote travel to the region as one of the best ways to help communities get back on their feet.

The crew have put the call out to local 4WD enthusiasts who’d like to help and see themselves on TV, they hope to see anything from 20 to 100 avid 4WD’ers tag along for the event.

This is fantastic timing for Dargo, as the Dargo General Store is gearing up to celebrate its 100th year of operation in 2023. The store has an incredible history, the very foundations having been brought down from Talbotville, and is located on the very site of the old police lock up site. The store is the ‘last man standing’ from a multitude of other shanties and stores that were scattered throughout the high country. The store boasts an incredible insight into yesteryear. In fact, older locals speak about the old telephony system that was operated from within.

While the itinerary for the 4WDTV episodes are still under wraps, there are plenty of trails to explore in and around Dargo. To plan a 4WD adventure in Gippsland, see: https://www.visitgippsland.com.au/do-and-see/outdoor-activities/four-wheel-driving
