Gippsland lines to be hit by rail worker strikes

Strikes by V/line staff this month will impact on train services on the Bairnsdale and Traralgon lines.

V/Line drivers, station staff and train controllers have voted to take industrial action as they seek a 6 percent annual pay rise over three years.

Overtime bans and rolling stop work action across all regional lines will take place from next Wednesday until December 20.

The union has scheduled Bairnsdale and Traralgon line services to be disrupted by a stoppage on Tuesday 17 December.

RTBU Victorian Secretary Luba Grigorovitch said they doesn't want to be holding rolling strikes across the VLine network but believe it’s necessary.

Bairnsdale and Traralgon line services will be further impacted in January when major works will be undertaken on rail infrastructure in the suburbs.

The work will affect services from Bairnsdale and Traralgon to Southern Cross from January 2 to 30, when trains will be replaced by a mix of express, semi-express and stopping-all-stations coaches.

During this time, V-Line recommends allowing an extra 90 minutes for journeys in peak times, and 60 minutes during off-peak times.
