East Gippsland Water has relaxed water restrictions.

Thanks to recent rain and cooler temperatures, East Gippsland Water will reduce water restrictions to stage 1 for customers being supplied by the Mitchell and Buchan Rivers.

This includes: the Bairnsdale area, Walpa, Lindenow South, Lindenow, Eagle Point, Newlands Arm, Paynesville, Raymond Island, Sarsfield, Bruthen, Nicholson, Johnsonville, Swan Reach, Metung, Kalimna, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Lake Tyers Beach and Nowa Nowa.

As of 1am this Friday customers will be able to water residential lawns and garden areas but with certain restrictions. Watering can be done on alternate days using a watering system, between 6am and 10am and 6pm and 10pm. A bucket, watering can or hand held-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle may be used at any time.

East Gippsand Water's Steve Mckenzie said despite the conditions, people still need to be responsible with their water use as the drought is not over.

Mr. Mackenzie also said that community efforts to lower water consumptions, as well as the quieter tourist seasons have helped due to the lowered demand on supply, aided in lowering the restrictions to stage 1.
